Here’s some cool information and fun facts about Bartlesville, Oklahoma. The Osage, Delaware, and Cherokee People called this land home before a trading post was opened by Nelson Carr in 1870. Three years later, Civil War veteran Jacobs Bartles bought
Carrs mill and added a general store to service a new community of settlers. He was married to the Delaware Chief’s daughter, which permitted him to operate a business in the Indian Territory. Two other settlers took Delaware brides and spread out the town with more businesses, and the community grew around them. The railroad brought more expansion with a school, drugstore, and industry, and Bartlesville was incorporated in 1897. Oil was discovered around this time, and the Phillips Petroleum Company was founded in 1917, later becoming the largest employer in the area.
Today, the total population of this historic American city is 36,144 people.
