The first people to inhabit the area along the Colorado River were the Mojave and they farmed the rich soil. The Spanish explorer Melchior Diaz documented his meeting with the indigenous people in 1540 and later Spanish padre Father Garces came to the area in 1776. A settlement called Hardyville sprang up in 1864, named after William Harris Hardy and he started a toll road and ferry on the Colorado River.
Mills opened up and mining was big in the late 1800s, making the population increase rapidly. When the Davis Dam was being built in the 1940s, the name changed to Bullhead City.
Today, the total population of this great American city is 40,884 people.
