Here’s some cool information and fun facts about Camarillo, California. The Chumash people inhabited the area for thousands of years before European explorers arrived. When Mexico gained independence from Spain in the early 1800’s, land grants were issued to families in the California area. José Pedro Ruiz got the grant where Camarillo stands now and it later transferred it to Adolpho and Jaun Camarillo, whom the city is named after.
The railroad came in 1898 and a station was built in the community. Adolfo Camarillo grew mainly lima beans,walnuts and citrus on his ranch and eventually employed over 700 workers. He also bred bred beautiful White horses.
The town developed with donated land from the Camarillo family and grew as agricultural industry flourished in the valley.
The city is still flourishing today with a population of almost 70,000 people.
