Population
Chandler was named after Dr. Alexander John Chandler, who was the first veterinary surgeon in Arizona, way back when it was still a territory. Chandler’s ranch eventually expanded into a town in its own right, and Chandler was incorporated in 1920, with a grand total of 186 residents.
By this point, Dr. Chandler was still alive and well, and he was appointed the town’s first mayor. Chandler saw little growth over the 20th century until the 1990s when it became one of the fastest-growing towns in all of the US. This was due to the heavy presence of computer and communications companies like Intel and Motorola.
