The Cleveland Heights area was settled after other communities around it as it was just farmland and quarries. Duncan McFarland started mining one of the first bluestone quarries and a settlement was established in the area. “Bluestone” became a boomtown as more people arrived to start mining and the town served their needs.
In 1873 John D. Rockefeller purchased 700 acres in the area and built Forest Hill, his summer residence. The Rockefeller family donated some of the lands and it was later developed into a residential. Other developers came in and created communities and the downtown area developed. Farming and mining were the main industries that grew around the community. In 1903 it was founded as a village and became a city in 1921.
Today, the total population of this great American city is 43,992 people.
