College Station is a town located about halfway between Austin and Houston, a little bit to the north of both communities. The city is so-named because of the presence of Texas A&M University, making College Station a prime example of a college town, where the local economy is entirely dependent on the local school.
Along with Texas A&M, College Station has its fair share of attractions including the George H. W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum. The city has also been home to one of the largest historical concentrations of Corps of Cadets members, and this is cataloged at the local Sanders Corps of Cadets Center.

Population
As the name suggests, the Houston and Texas Central Railway played a crucial role in the establishment of the town. The railroad started construction in 1860, and Texas A&M opened its doors in 1876, though it didn’t start drawing in significant numbers of settlers until later.
Like many cities in the area, College Station didn’t see a true explosion in its population until the postwar Baby Boom in the 1950s.
