Corpus Christi is a city located along the Southern shore of Texas, not far from both San Antonio and the border with Mexico. Corpus Christi has plenty of attractions to draw in tourists, including the decorated World War II aircraft carrier, USS Lexington.
The Lexington is home to a museum, including fixtures related to naval aviation, as is fitting for an aircraft carrier. If you’re not much of a military buff, Corpus Christi is also home to the Texas State Aquarium, located near the city’s harbor. This aquarium includes one of the country’s premier shark exhibits.
Corpus Christi also has some of the highest average wind speeds in the USA, making it an attraction for windsurfers and kiteboarders.

Population
Before European colonization, the region around what is presently known as Corpus Christi was inhabited by the Karankawa people. In 1519, the bay of Corpus Christi was discovered by Spanish explorers, who so named it because they arrived on the day of the Feast of Corpus Christi (the body of Christ).
Corpus Christi was first settled permanently as a trading post by Colonel Henry Lawrence Kinney. His goal was to sell much-needed supplies to encamped armies of Mexican revolutionaries nearby. Nearly 15 years later, the small trading post was incorporated as the town of Corpus Christi.
