Here’s some cool information and fun facts about Cypress, California.
The Tongva Indigenous people populated the area long before Spanish explorers arrived in the mid-1700s. Spain gave land to soldiers instead of money and one line officer, Manuel Nieto, received a 300,000-acre parcel in the area that would become Cypress. When he died in 1804 he was the richest man in California and the property was handed down through his family.
Waterville was a nickname for the area but in 1956 it was incorporated as Dairy Valley, after the many local dairy farmers.
When WW II was over the farmlands were sold to developers to build housing and only a few decades later the dairy farms were gone.
In 1957 the residents changed the name to Cypress after the Cypress trees planted to protect the original 1895 schoolhouse.
Today, the total population of this great American city is 49,006 people.
