Here’s some cool information and fun facts about Delray Beach, Florida. The Jaega people were the first known indigenous group in the area. In 1876 the Orange Grove House Of Refuge was built to take care of shipwrecked sailors in the area. A settlement formed in 1884 by a group of African Americans on land bought from the Refuge. They farmed the land and 10 years later the first school was opened.
U.S. Congressman William S. Linton bought a parcel of land close by and resold smaller plots to build up the farming community. 2 years later the railroad came to “Linton” and the community continued to grow. By 1901 the name changed to Delray and as more settlers came, the industry started with pineapple and tomato canning manufacturing plants. The city flourished over the years and has become a vibrant place to live and work.
