Deltona is a bedroom community of nearby Orlando, despite being located relatively far away from it. While it isn’t part of the city’s urban sprawl, it is located along the outskirts, to the north of the nearby suburb of Sanford. One of the most notable things about Deltona is that it’s located on the banks of Lake Monroe.
This makes Deltona suitable for people who want to go canoeing or kayaking on the nearby lake, and there are plenty of green, open spaces to appreciate. Some of these spaces are within the city proper, like the Lyonia Preserve and the Green Springs Park, but the nearby Lake Monroe Conservation Area is also a popular destination.

Deltona finally shortened its name when it was incorporated in 1995.
