Settlers came to the region in the 1840s and started a small community, but it took another 40 years for the railroad to come to the area. The Chicago, Texas and Mexican Central Railroad built the Duncan Switch, and the town was born.
Post Master Charles P. Nance changed the settlement’s name to Duncanville in 1882, and soon after, there were several businesses in town, including a general store, doctors office, and pharmacy as well as a school.
There was an Army Air Corps landing field in the town during WWII, which converted to the Duncanville Air Force station when the war ended. It housed four Nike Hercules missile sites during the cold war. The city continued to grow and is a proud Texas community.
Today, the total population of this great American city is 38,751 people.
