The Suquamish people fished in the area for hundreds of years prior to European settlers arriving. In 1876, Canadian logger George Brackett bought the land from a settler who had the claim. He began logging the area and started to create a town with other arriving settlers. First known as Brackett’s Landing, the town grew with a general store and post office before becoming the town of Edmonds, after US Senator George Franklin Edmonds.
Edmonds became a city in 1890 and the Great Northern Railway soon came to town. Logging and shingle making were the first industries and they lasted through to the 1950s. Bedroom communities were developed and then annexed into Edmond and the city grew.
Today, the total population of this great American city is 42,605 people.
