Population
Glendale is a relatively recent creation, though its development was spurred on by the creation of the Arizona Canal. William John Murphy, the creator of the canal, was in debt by the time he finished building it, and he started selling land near the Canal to make up for his massive debt.
This led to Murphy naming the town Glendale so that he could draw new inhabitants in with the attractive name. Later on, one of the main factors that spurred on the growth of Glendale was the Beet Sugar Factory, drawing in precious numbers of settlers between 1906 and 1913.
