The Winnebago people first inhabited the area and later the Potawatomi made a settlement there. Through the treaty process, their lands were passed to Illinois and the Chicago area was born. This opened up the land to new pioneers who came and settled in the new Northfield Township. Many nearby villages developed and then Glenview incorporated in 1899. It started out as farmland but transitioned into a suburban area.
After the Great Chicago Fire, a major road was built through Glenview and spurred on new industries of manufacturing and shipping of agricultural products.
Over the years the community prospered and the population followed.
Today, the total population of this great American village is 47,308 people.
