During WW II the city grew because of Defence plants and manufacturing. Birdville was a neighboring town that was originally established in 1841 before which it was Fort Bird. As the town grew it was eventually annexed into Haltom City in 1955, boosting the population.
The city’s economy continued to explode in the 1970s with 35 factories making clothing, plastics, and metal products. Twenty years later there were 60 plants manufacturing more consumer goods and the residential growth still continues to expand.
