Here’s some cool information and fun facts about Laguna Niguel, California. The Acjachemen people lived in the area in a village called “Niguili” along Aliso Creek. When the Spanish explorers arrived in the 1700’s, the missionaries set up Mission San Juan Capistrano to convert the local tribes to Christianity.
After Mexico gained independence from Spain in 1821, various land grants were given out including Rancho Niguel (present day Laguna Niguel). The land changed hands several times over the next 130 years.
When Interstate 5 came through the area in 1959, the Orange County housing market was booming. The area was then developed as one of the first master planned communities in California.
Today, the total population of this thriving American city is 66,385 people.
