The Caddoan People and others occupied the lands thousands of years before European settlers came to the area. By the 1840s pioneer families arrived and because of Indian resistance, Fort Worth was built for the farmers protection.
A group of families moved into the area that would become Mansfield and was known as Gibson Community, after 3 Gibson family members who built homesteads. By 1860 there was a church and school erected. The first grist Mill was built by R.S. Man and Julian Field to produce flour and meal for the surrounding communities. They purchased 540 acres for the steam powered mill and opened up a general store and post office. As the town grew it adopted the name “Mansfield” for the two founders and it was incorporated in 1909. The city continued to grow and flourishes to this day.
Today, the total population of this small American city is 72,419 people.
