Here’s some cool information and fun facts about Moorhead, Minnesota. North Pacific Railway director William G. Moorhead founded the town in 1871, and with the Homestead Act, settlers came to live in the area. The railroad also brought lots of new residents to the new frontier. Moorhead became a transportation hub for road, rail travel and a vital river crossing point, as well as barges and steamboats on the river.
Soon after incorporating in 1881, water, sewer, and electricity came to Moorhead. It became known as “Sin City” with over 100 bars while, at the same time, nearby Fargo was a dry town. Moorhead attracted agricultural manufacturing and distribution with barley, wheat, sugar beets, and potatoes. Today this city is thriving, and people love the small-town feel while being close to big city amenities.

- The fateful trip that Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, and the Big Bopper took was to perform at The Moorhead Armory. The plane crashed en route on February 3rd, 1959.
