Population
Orlando was first established as Fort Gatlin in 1838, named after an Army doctor who was killed in Dade’s Massacre. Later on, the settlement around the military encampment grew into what would eventually become Orlando.
Orlando grew massively between 1875 and 1895, as it was the center of Flordia’s citrus production. However, the most crucial moment in Orlando’s history was in 1965, when Walt Disney decided to establish his theme park there, choosing it over other areas in Florida due to being further inland, and therefore safer during hurricanes.
