Juan Rodrigues Cabrillo was a Portuguese explorer that discovered the area in 1542 and over 150 years later Spain came to establish a colony. When the San Gabriel Mission was founded, indigenous people named “Gabrielino” inhabited the land. The mission attracted families from Mexico to come to farm the area and start a new life and one man, Juan Jose Domingues was given the land that would become Ranch San Pedro.
The area grew rapidly with agriculture and cattle farming and by the early 20th century, developers were building homes and creating communities. The city grew along the coast and became a desirable location to live and work.
Today, the total population of this wonderful American city is 41,530 people.
