Located in the southern end of Los Angeles County, Temple City is included in the San Gabriel Valley area which also includes cities like Arcadia, Monterey Park, and Pasadena.
Perhaps most famously, Temple City was the location where David Klein, inventor of the Jelly Bean first came up with his idea for the innovative new candy. Following in a similar fashion, Temple City has been home to a number of entrepreneurs and local business owners.
Today, the city’s economy is largely driven by local retail and service-based businesses that cater to residents and provide B2B services for other companies.

For this reason, it’s developed into a popular suburban city for those who work closer to downtown LA but who prefer the more laid-back living environment of Temple City.

Fun Facts
- Temple City is bordered by the Rio Hondo Water. However, this river’s historical name was Rio De Los Temblores, which translates to “River of the Earthquakes.” As much of California lies on a major fault-line, this name was likely given in reference to the area’s proclivity to earthquakes.
- In 2009, Temple City was the subject of an intense corruption investigation from the LA District Attorney. Temple City officials allegedly took bribes to allow certain retail developments.
