Here’s some cool information and fun facts about University City, Missouri. At the end of the 1800s, there was mostly farming in the area, with surrounding communities starting to develop. In 1903, Edward Gardner Lewis founded the city when he was looking for a location for his publishing company, publishing both Woman’s Farm Journal and Woman’s Magazine. He later became the city’s first mayor when it was incorporated in 1906. Lewis helped the town develop with small businesses, banks, residential areas, and a school district by 1915.
The population grew as people moved out from the bigger cities, and University City benefitted from the eager families wanting to settle there. The city is a great place to live and raise a family.
