Here’s some cool information and fun facts about Valley Stream, New York. The Dutch West India Company bought land from the Rockaway Native People in 1640, but no settlers came to live on the land for another 200 years. There were farmers and fertilizer companies operating in the area, and several taverns opened up in the “Rum Junction.” Robert Pagan and his family came to farm in the area in the 1840s, and Robert became the postmaster, naming the community “Valley Stream.”. His wife started the first church in their home.
Roads were constructed, linking communities together, and industry began to flourish. The railroad came in 1869, which boosted growth in the area, and by the 20th century, Valley Stream was a vacation destination. The village got larger as developers built housing and grew to the prosperous region it is today.
