Wheaton was founded in the 1830s during the Indian Removal Act. Settlers came to lay claim to 100s of acres of land in the area including Erastus Gary, Warren Wheaton and Jesse Wheaton. Other settlers followed and formed a community. In 1848 land was given to the railroaded and the Wheaton Depot was established. The Wheaton brothers also gave land away to anyone committed to building up the town.
The city started to form and was incorporated in 1890. More land was donated to the state and Wheaton College was born.
While Wheaton honors its past it looks to the future and its community growth.
