Population
Here’s some cool information and fun facts about Woodland, California.
The Patwin people inhabited the region long before Spanish explorers and European trappers moved into the area. The Yolotoi, a small tribelet of the Patwin, settled near modern day Westland. Unfortunately as the new visitors came, so did their disease. In the early 1800s malaria and smallpox almost wiped out the indigenous tribes.
Soon after California became a state, Yolo County was formed and several early settlers built stores and businesses to attract people to this new community.
In 1861 the first post office was established and the town grew rapidly. With the rail line came town expansion and more people moved in. The city was incorporated in 1871 and agriculture and manufacturing built the city up.
The interstate construction was completed in the 1970s and opened up the area to more expansion with many subdivisions and major chain stores locating in the area.
Today, the total population of this vibrant American city is 60,548 people.
