Yuma is a city in southern Arizona, by the Mexican border. The city is located to the east of both San Diego and Mexicali. Nearby natural attractions include the Kofa National Wildlife Refuge and the Joshua Tree National Park (which is a bit further away). A little closer to the city, you’ll find the Quartermaster Depot State Historic Park.
Another local State Park is the Yuma Territorial Prison State Historic Park, complete with structures preserved from the town’s long cowboy heritage. History isn’t all there is to Yuma, as the town is also home to many thriving businesses, all of whom need to market themselves to stay ahead of the competition.

Population
The spot that is now Yuma was first discovered in 1540 by Portuguese explorers, as it is one of the narrowest points at which the Colorado River can be crossed. During the mid-1800s, Fort Yuma was established, followed by Colorado City, and then Arizona City.
Arizona City would eventually be renamed to Yuma in 1873. The city grew immensely when the Colorado River was bridged by the nearby Southern Pacific Railroad in 1877.
